Medicine and Health

The progress of medicine during the last decade is strongly influenced by virtualization of the occurring processes. By now, simulations of surgical procedures or digital treatment planning are well-established.

MESHFREE is able to further support the virtualization of medical and biological processes in different aspects:

  • Fluid-Structure-Interaction (FSI): flow in flexible structure
  • Complex material behavior: from Newtonian to Non-Newtonian fluids
  • Multiphase scenarios: coupling of fluid and discrete phases

MESHFREE Use Cases – Flow in Flexible Structure

The direct interaction between fluid flow and surrounding structure in the human vessel system or medical devices such as stents or balloon catheters is not yet understood completely. Simulations can assist in closing this gap.

Pulsating Flow in a Blood Vessel

With MESHFREE, the influence of the pulsing characteristics and the elastic properties of the membrane can be investigated in detail.
